My New Outside Blog: When clients are loyal and when they are not

When clients are loyal and when they are not

I have been a Real Estate agent for 9 years now. And I believe when you work as hard as you can for your clients you deserve there loyalty toward you. As a Realtor I go that extra mile and half to list and actively sell there property or search for the right home for them. To achieve there goals first. Not mine.

I had a couple here this past weekend. They where here 5 weeks ago looking to buy a second home. They found me through my website. This client searched all the listings he could find in my area for a single family home and in his price range and would ask me to check them out for him. Believe me I don't have a problem checking, I feel everyone who I work with, who is looking for a home or wants to list there home for sale with me, I want to go the extra mile for them. Because I feel privileged they are asking me to help them.

So this past weekend they were back and we did find a nice home for them to purchase. As of this writing we are in negotiations. And very close to closing the deal.

These clients were loyal to me and I appreciate them coming back to me, thanking me for all my hard work. Its not hard work, its how you want it to be. Yes as Realtors we do work hard at times like any other profession. We have our ups and downs. But it's OK. Our goal should always be to help our clients first. They are asking us for our help. So we also need to be loyal to them. Always answer the phone when they call or answer there e-mail when they write. It's not hard work and can be very enjoyable. In this profession it is great working with different people all the time. It dose not get dull.

2 years ago I had a couple from the West Coast of Florida come to my area in search for a new home.We found the right one but problem being they had to sell there other home first. They had a buyer for there home but the deal feel through. So they had to back out of buying a home here in Delray Beach. My client whose name is Dominick said to me Joe you are my agent and I will be back to you as soon as we sell our home on the West Coast. 2 years later they home was finally sold and they came back to me. We found the right home for them and I can say they are very happy. This is what makes this business great. These great people who I can call friends have made up for the clients who are not loyal.

Joe you are so right, loyalty works both ways from the Realtor to the Client and from the Client to the Realtor, when each side knows their job and keeps to it, that is when deals get done.  Nice post.  Thanks.

I've heard many Realtors complain about someone who got a listing on a house they had previously sold and what a good job they had done for those people etc. The statistics say the majority of people will deal with the realtor they last saw or spoke with. Staying in touch cements loyalty.

This shows that you are really building report and care into your clients. They value you as a friend and trusted professional. I wish we could find more loyal clients as most aren't.

I thank you all for your comments on this. It is true many are not loyal.

After showing one couple a few weeks ago many homes they put a low ball offer in on one home and I said it would not fly, but they did not want to hear it. It was $150,000 offer on a $200,000 home. was rejected before the ink dried. The next day they went to a new delvelopment on there own and bought a new home for $267,000. When there friends who are also my clients asked why not go through Joe they said it did not matter.

The reason I wrote this in the first place was I just had this happen with an inactive realtor that I spent a lot of time searching and sending information on maybe a hundred different condos. She was here a 6 weeks ago and was coming back. 2 weeks ago she said she also had another Realtor helping her. After I had been sending infomation on condos to her. No loyalty.

We need to focus on the good people not the bad.

Joe, you speak for many of us. Some people won't have any loyalty to anyone, but those that do, are the type of people we prefer to have a continued relationship with.

Hello Joe, working with loyal clients can be very fulfilling professionally, indeed!  I tend to think the loyal clients also don't hold back letting you know what they truly want (they are more honest with themselves), and obtain superior results.  Thanks!  John

Hi Joe,

So nice to hear happy stories for a change. I love when customers understand what we do for them, and appreciate it! In this tough market it's good to know that people are still loyal.

Great job on giving Realtors a GOOD name!
